remembrance day photos

After an unpromising start the weather turned really nice for the remembrance day events on Houghton Regis Green.
The turn out was tremendous - lots of support.  Even got featured on the Anglia news in the evening !!  This year the community really got involved with the 100 year anniversary of the end of the 'Great War'. The library concourse was resplendent with the theme and the 'drumhead' reconstruction survived the transfer onto the Green for the Sunday.

Bertie Crew

Bertie Crew of the Bedfordshire Regiment actually died in 1919 whilst serving in the 'Labour Corps' which was manned by soldiers not rated 'A1'. These were often those who had been previously injured on the battlefied. So it would appear the Bertie did actualy experience Armistice Day.
He was buried in the Chapel yard of Houghton Regis Baptist Church along with Gilbert Horsler and Thomas King.

My poem for Bertie is on this link:   for bertie.html

Thorn Service

Thursday 28th June saw the annual service at the site of the Thorn Baptist church - predecessor of Houghton Regis Baptist Church.  Despite the scheduling of an England world cup match for the same time a few of us made the annual journey to Thorn to celebrate the past and pray for the future.
